How Clare works

Clare offers structured online conflict resolution for two people: calmly, fairly, and without taking sides. No judgment. No pressure. Just clearer communication.

Fundamentals

What Clare is, and isn't

What Clare is

  • An impartial listener for both sides
  • A guide for emotional clarity
  • A structured communication helper
  • A calm presence when things feel messy

What Clare is not

  • A judge or decision-maker
  • Someone who takes sides
  • A replacement for human connection
  • An intrusive or pushy mediator

Step by step

The process, in detail

Each phase is designed to give both participants space to be heard, then gently move toward shared understanding.

1
Individual intake chats

Each person starts with a private conversation with Clare, a safe space to explain what's going on, how things feel, and what's difficult, without interruption or judgment.

2
Situation assessment

Clare looks at both perspectives together. The goal isn't to decide who's right, but to understand patterns, emotional needs, misunderstandings, and points of friction.

3
Follow-up conversations & reflection

Clare continues working with both people through follow-up conversations, sometimes including gentle reflection exercises designed to increase awareness, not add pressure.

4
Building mutual understanding

Over time, both people gain a better understanding of their own emotions and more clarity around what is happening in the shared situation. Each person's conversations remain entirely private throughout.

5
Communication check & conclusion

Clare keeps checking whether communication between you has improved. When it has, and you can carry the conversation on your own, Clare proposes wrapping up: a conclusion chat highlighting progress, remaining challenges, and next steps. You can also end the process yourself at any point, from your process page.

See it in practice

What an intake conversation feels like

A short excerpt from a first conversation. Clare listens, asks one question at a time, and never takes a side.

  1. Clare:

Hello, I'm Clare. My role today is simply to listen and ask questions, so I can understand how things look from your point of view. I won't give feedback or advice, there are no good or bad answers, and everything you say stays private: I will never share it with the other person. To begin, please describe what brought you here, in your own words.

Clare opens by saying what she will and won't do, promises privacy, and invites the person to start wherever they like.

  2. The person in the conversation:

It's about my brother, Luca. Since Dad's surgery in the spring I've been driving over every week, and Luca just calls on Sundays and says he's there in spirit. Last month I told him I was exhausted and he said I was exaggerating.

  3. Clare:

That is a lot to carry since your father's surgery. What has this been like for you?

Clare acknowledges the weight of a major life event, then asks about the person's own experience rather than about who is right.

  4. The person in the conversation:

Angry, mostly, and lonely. I honestly don't know what Luca thinks about all this, but he clearly doesn't care what it costs me.

  5. Clare:

Earlier you said you don't know what Luca thinks, and now that he doesn't care. Help me understand how those two fit together for you.

When two statements pull against each other, Clare names the tension out of curiosity. She neither agrees nor challenges.

  6. The person in the conversation:

Fair point. I don't actually know. Maybe he has no idea how much it takes, he lives three hours away. But he never asks.

  7. The conversation continues.

An invented excerpt. A real conversation goes on for as long as it takes, and real conversations are private and never shown.
