Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before getting started with Clare.

Is the AI really neutral and unbiased?
Yes. The AI is designed to listen objectively without taking sides. It focuses on identifying misunderstandings, emotional signals, and recurring themes, not on deciding who is right or wrong. It is built on fairness, empathy, and respect.
Is my conversation private?
Absolutely. Your data is confidential and encrypted. We never share your data without your explicit permission. Privacy is built into everything we do.
Will the other person learn what I said in my private session?
No. The other person cannot read your conversations with Clare, ever. They cannot see your answers, your words, or any summary of what you shared. Clare never shows one person's private session to the other, not even in paraphrased form.

The only things visible to both parties are that each person has joined the case and whether each has completed their session.
Does the AI see my real name?
No. Before your messages reach Clare, names, locations, and group affiliations are replaced with anonymous placeholders. Contact information such as email addresses and phone numbers is removed entirely. You can verify exactly what Clare receives from within the chat interface. How do I delete my account and my data?
You can request deletion of your account and data at any time. Deletion covers your account information, conversation transcripts, and usage data. Case records where the other participant is still active may be retained until their participation ends. Submit a deletion request → Read our Privacy Policy →
What does the process look like?
Each person speaks privately with the AI, without interruptions or pressure. The AI then analyses both perspectives and creates a neutral summary highlighting key issues, emotional signals, and possible paths forward. This summary can be used to reflect, respond, or repair the relationship. See the full step-by-step process →
What if the other person doesn't fully engage?
Clare works best when both people are willing to reflect and engage honestly. If one person participates only minimally or is not open to feedback, progress may be limited. In such cases, the process may be paused or ended after several follow-up sessions.
Is Clare a mediation or therapy service?
No to both. Traditional mediation involves joint sessions with a professional facilitator working toward a formal agreement. Clare works differently: each person speaks privately and separately, there are no joint sessions, and the goal is better understanding and communication, not a negotiated outcome.

Clare is not AI couples therapy either: therapy diagnoses and treats mental health conditions, and Clare does not. It is a communication support tool for everyday relationship friction, not a clinical or legal service. For situations involving serious power imbalances, abuse, or mental health needs, a professional mediator or therapist is the right choice. Read our safety guidelines →
What kinds of relationships is Clare best suited for?
Clare works best for relationships between equals: partners, friends, family members, housemates, neighbours, or non-hierarchical coworkers. It is not designed for situations involving strong power imbalances.
What happens if abuse or unsafe dynamics are detected?
Clare is not suitable for abusive or unsafe situations. If signs of abuse, control, or significant power imbalance are detected, especially during intake, the process may be stopped and a refund issued. In such cases, we strongly recommend seeking help from an offline professional.
How long does the process usually take?
There is no fixed timeline. Some situations become clearer after a few sessions, others take longer. As long as meaningful progress is being made, the process can continue. If things start going in circles, Clare may suggest wrapping up.
Who decides when the process ends?
Most often Clare does, and for a good reason: it sees that communication between you has improved and that you can handle the remaining issues yourselves through healthy confrontation. That is the normal ending, and it comes with a conclusion chat.

The process can also end because one of you stops taking part, because Clare detects an unsafe dynamic, or because no meaningful progress is being made. And you can decide to stop at any time. A partial refund may apply depending on why the process ended; that is assessed by the Clare team, except for unsafe dynamics found during intake, which are always refunded in full. See refunds and fair use →
I have several problems at once. Can Clare handle them all?
Clare is built for one problem, or a group of closely connected ones. If your situations are unrelated, pick one and use it as the starting point. The process is about improving how the two of you communicate, so working through the main issue usually gives you a framework you can apply to the rest yourselves.
Can I use Clare on my own?
Clare is designed for situations involving two people. While individual reflection is part of the process, meaningful progress usually requires participation from both sides.
